Letter to President Barack Obama

The President of the United States

The White House

Subject: President Alpha Conde and the meeting with francophone African leaders

Dear Mr. President:

This letter is being addressed to you by a group of concerned citizens from Guinea who is dreaming to see its beloved and brave people, live in a country where all the citizens are treating equally and justice is done without racial and ethnical prejudices.

It was with great gratitude that we learned the invitation addressed to four (4) west African presidents in Washington this week in a bid to strengthen bilateral cooperation and push for the democratization process in their respective countries, we thank you and support you.

However Mr. President, this gratitude does not come without some concerns:

Since he was elected president of Guinea in December 2010, President Alpha Conde has violated our constitution multiple times:

a-       replacing the mediator of the Republic in violation of article 129 of the constitution
b-        taking the very serious political decision to dissolve 11 elected urban representatives and nine other councils Rural Development Community (CRD).
c-       The trusteeship of the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI) through an illegal agreement signed by its acting president under the Minister of Territorial Administration and Decentralization in violation of Article 2 of the Constitution and the Article 2 of the Election Code.
d-       The desire to redo a full census of voters for the establishment of a new file while Article 19 of the Electoral Code stipulates that electoral lists are permanent. They are subject to annual review.

-       President Alpha Conde with his comments while visiting the locals in Dixinn, used the terms “others”, “turtles”,”enemies of the nation“ referring to the Fulani community.
-       President Alpha Conde has praised Facinet Toure (mediator of the republic) who during an interview recently said, quote: “the Fulani shouldn’t chase the presidency, because they have economic power.....”
-       President Alpha during his campaign promised to reunite all Guinean by creating a commission for the truth and the reconciliation” but sadly this commission has never been active.
-       President Conde is allowing Pivi, Tiegboro and Rasco to violate the most basic rights of Guineans by violently reprimanding all manifestations, all march and all political meetings. Recently we all witnessed the tragic death of Zakhariou Diallo while welcoming his political leader.
-       The same officers Pivi, Tiegboro and Rasco are arbitrary arresting citizens and illegally detaining them without warrant or a right to see an attorney. These barbarians’ acts have been condemned by many human rights organizations.
-       After the despicable attempt on his life on july 19th, we have seen multiples arbitrary arrests and seen the horrible images of some presumed responsible of the attack badly harmed. They are officer’s Alpha Oumar Diallo (AOB) and Sidiki Camara alias De Gaulle.
-       The vice president of UFDG Mr Bah Oury haven’t been seen since early morning of the july 19th-       A simple citizen who lives by Mr Bah Oury was taken from his house the same morning and hasn’t been seen since then. His name Alpha Diallo.
-       The CNC with Martine Conde is muzzling and shutting down all media that is not supporting the president which a clear violation of the right to the media.

Mr. President we are aware that all these violations of our constitution by President Alpha Conde and his discriminatory nominations and comments against a community are all against your principles that you have always highly valued. And the truth is, because of president Alpha Conde’s inability to reconcile guineans, the country is deeply divided and the tension between Fulani and mandingo is more noticeable than ever before.

Mr. President, in the name of true democracy we are hoping that you will reconsider your invitation for president Alpha Conde. His visit to the white house might be interpreted as a support to his mishandling of the country.

As a young democracy, our nation needs a leader capable of reuniting the country and who will give us a glimpse of a brighter future.

Sincerely,
Concerned citizens of Guinea
